This Privacy Policy explains how Monait ("we," "our," or "the App") handles information when you use our iOS application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you understand how your data is managed.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
Monait is designed to respect your privacy. We do NOT:
- Collect any personal financial data
- Access your transaction history or account balances
- Store your receipts, bills, financial documents, or bank statements
- Track your spending habits or financial behavior
- Collect personal identification information
- Use analytics or tracking tools
- Share or sell any user data
3. How Your Data is Stored
3.1 Local Storage
All your financial data entered into Monait is stored locally on your iOS device. This includes:
- Transaction records
- Income and expense entries
- Scanned receipts and documents
- Uploaded bank statement PDFs
- Converted transaction data from PDFs
- Categories and tags
- Financial analysis results
3.2 iCloud Backup
Your data is backed up through Apple's iCloud service if you have iCloud backup enabled for the App. This backup is:
- Encrypted by Apple
- Accessible only with your Apple ID
- Subject to Apple's privacy policies
- Not accessible to Monait developers
4. AI and Data Processing
4.1 Apple Intelligence (On-Device)
On supported devices with Apple Intelligence:
- Basic AI processing occurs locally on your device
- No data is sent to external servers for simple features
- Analysis results remain on your device
4.2 External LLM Processing for Complex Features
Certain features require external LLM processing due to their complexity:
Bank Statement PDF Conversion: This feature requires external LLM processing due to the complexity of parsing varied PDF formats and extracting structured financial data. Bank statements contain sensitive financial information and should only be processed through providers you trust.

4.3 LLM Provider Options
For features requiring external processing:
- Pro Users: Can specify their own LLM provider credentials
- Standard Users in regions without Apple Intelligence: Must consent to use developer-selected LLM providers
- Privacy Choice: Users can decline external processing, but features requiring it will be unavailable
Important: When processing bank statements, only the PDF content necessary for conversion is sent to the LLM provider. The processed data is immediately returned to your device and not stored externally.
5. Bank Statement Processing Details
5.1 What Happens When You Upload a Bank Statement
- You select a PDF bank statement from your device
- You confirm which LLM provider to use for processing
- The PDF is sent to the LLM provider for parsing
- Structured transaction data is returned to your device
- You can review and edit the converted data
- The data is saved locally on your device
- You can export to Excel or CSV format
5.2 Security Measures
- PDFs are transmitted using encrypted connections
- No permanent copies are retained by the LLM provider
- Processing is done in isolated sessions
- You control which statements to process
6. Data Security
We implement security measures to protect your data:
- Local Encryption: Data stored on your device uses iOS security features
- No Remote Access: We have no ability to access your device or data
- Secure Communication: When external LLM providers are used, data is transmitted using encrypted connections
- Minimal Data Exposure: Only necessary data is processed for requested features
- Temporary Processing: Bank statements are processed transiently without permanent storage
7. Your Rights and Controls
You have complete control over your data:
7.1 Access and Portability
- Access all your data directly within the App
- Export transaction data to Excel or CSV
- Download your complete financial records
- Transfer data between devices using iCloud
7.2 Deletion
- Delete individual entries within the App
- Remove uploaded bank statements
- Clear all data by uninstalling the App
- Remove iCloud backups through your device settings
7.3 Processing Control
- Choose whether to use AI features
- Select your preferred LLM provider
- Decide which bank statements to process
- Opt out of external processing at any time
8. Children's Privacy
Monait is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The App requires users to be of legal age to manage their own financial affairs.
9. Third-Party Services
9.1 Apple Services
The App integrates with the following Apple services:
- iCloud: For data backup (optional)
- Apple Intelligence: For on-device AI processing (where available)
These services are governed by Apple's privacy policies.
9.2 External LLM Providers
If you choose to use external LLM providers for AI features or bank statement processing:
- Each provider has its own privacy policy
- We recommend reviewing provider policies before use
- We are not responsible for third-party privacy practices
- You can change providers or discontinue use at any time
- Bank statement processing requires explicit consent each time
10. International Data Transfers
When using external LLM providers:
- Data may be processed in different countries
- Bank statements may be processed in the LLM provider's jurisdiction
- Transfer depends on your chosen provider's location
- You consent to such transfers when selecting a provider
- You can avoid international transfers by not using features requiring external processing
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. We will notify you of material changes through:
- App Store update notes
- In-app notifications
- Updates to the "Last Updated" date
12. Data Retention
Since we do not collect or store your data on our servers:
- Data remains on your device until you delete it
- Uploaded bank statements are stored locally after processing
- iCloud backups are retained according to Apple's policies
- External LLM providers process data transiently per their policies
- We recommend regularly reviewing and managing your stored data
13. Your California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). However, since we do not collect personal information as defined by CCPA, these rights primarily relate to your control over data on your own device.

- Bank statement processing requires explicit consent
